Academics

There are several different focuses within the field of beauty and cosmetology that are covered by the program of study at the State Beauty Academy. Students are granted a one or two year professional certificate upon completion of their program. Principally, students will be heading towards a program in general cosmetology or with a specialization in barber/styling or nail instructor.

The State Beauty Academy seeks to provide a more affordable and accessible way to achieve the same level of cosmetology competency that is gained by studying in the more reputable and recognizable beauty colleges throughout the country, and to constantly update its academic focus and offering to ensure that it remains relevant within this dynamic and frequently evolving field.

Admissions

Admissions standards at the State Beauty Academy are very lax, with possession of a high-school diploma not even being a requisite. The school implements an open admissions policy and therefore all qualified applicants that are determined to be a good fit for the school and with a promising future in the area of cosmetology are accepted. The application process implies submitting the hard copy application form along with the non-refundable application fee and furthermore visiting the school and having an interview with either one of the representatives or the owner/director himself.

Financial Aid

As a participating institution in the federal Title IV financial assistance programs, the students of the State Beauty Academy may qualify, in certain cases, for financial aid in the form of grants, loans, scholarships, or work-study. The best way to access such financial aid when attending or simply applying to the State Beauty Academy is to submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible, preferably during the application process itself.

Students

The student body at the State Beauty Academy is quite small, not exceeding 45 in a typical year. Many students are members of minorities, with African Americans and Asians being particularly strongly represented. In-state Texas residents comprise the vast majority of the student population. All students are enrolled on a full-time basis at the school and a surprising 33% actually end up graduation from their diploma program, with many transferring over to other beauty colleges.

There are no student housing facilities available at the State Beauty Academy nor are students offered a meal plan (as there is no common cafeteria). Students are able to enjoy services such as career placement help and general counseling. Students get to increase their skills in the area of cosmetology during their studies at the State Beauty Academy thanks to the ample opportunities that they will be presented with to actually apply their knowledge on real, paying customers; in fact, practicing on customers is an essential and obligatory part of the program of study at the school and ensures that graduates will gain sufficient knowledge of the trade before graduating, increasing their chances of meaningful employment thereafter.
