Academics
Known for its dedication to education in business, medical and culinary professions, Star Career Academy (formerly Star Technical Institute)’s Northeast Philadelphia location continues the tradition begun in 1979. In Philadelphia, students have a variety of careers to pursue in the medical and healthcare profession, with the opportunity to test these skills in the workplace before graduating. In some cases, a career can be begun in less than eight months of class attendance.
The Medical Assistant Program is one of Star Academy Philadelphia’s most popular courses of study, training students for entry level work in a doctor’s office or hospital. The choice of either clinical focus or administrative focus is available. An externship spanning 180 hours of on-site training is required before graduation.
Students may train for the EMT profession at Star Philadelphia, or elect to continue on with the educational program in hopes of becoming a paramedic. This challenging career is one of the most essential in the pre-hospital portion of medical care.
The curriculum in Surgical Technology will bring the student into the world of operational procedures. Besides learning how to handle the surgical equipment and take note of a patient’s vital signs, students will learn about the legal concerns which are involved in every surgical procedure.
Insurance and Health Technology students enter the healthcare field on the administrative end, learning how to process coding and deliver bills according to insurance company procedures. Students will be expected to handle the computer software necessary to work in this profession.
Other courses of study at Star Academy Philadelphia include the Cardiology Technician, EKG Technician, Phlebotomist and Dialysis Technician careers.
With various other locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Star Career Academy is licensed in both states and receives accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). The Corporate Offices are located in Berlin, NJ, a short drive from Philadelphia. The President and CEO is Michael Iannacone.
