Established in 1916; St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is an independent and coeducational liberal arts college located in Patchogue, Long Island, New York. It also operates a campus in the Clinton Hill area of Brooklyn. Since 1916, the College has provided an affordable liberal arts education to an assorted group of students. St. Joseph’s prepares students for lives of integrity, social responsibility, and service.

Saint Josephs College is fully accredited by the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA). The institute is also a member of several associates such as American Council on Education; Council for Adult and Experimental Learning; National Association of College and University Business Officers; Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools; National League for Nursing; College Entrance Examination Board; Council for Adult and Experimental Learning; and Long Island Regional Advisory Council on Higher Education.

Saint Josephs College provides education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. It offers degrees in more than 23 majors, special courses and certificates, affiliated and pre-professional programs in diverse areas of study such as health care management, management, business, human services, nursing, accounting and education. SJC is composed of two academic divisions: School of Arts and Sciences; and School Of Professional and Graduate Studies.

SJC offers a variety of certificate programs for students interested in acquiring new skills in diverse areas of career interests. Any of the certificate programs can be taken as an addition to a separate degree or as a way of advancing a professional career. Some of the certificate programs include Health Care Management; Home Care Administration; Information Technology Applications; Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations; Training and Staff Development; Home Care Administration; and Criminology/Criminal Justice.

SJC Online

St. Joseph’s College offers online degrees and certificates for students who are unable to attend a traditional college due to various personal and professional commitments. The online programs foster educational and career advancements of the students. The flexible online programs enable working adults with skills and knowledge pertaining to management, organizational behavior, business, and human resources to promote managerial success from the comforts of their home. Some of the online programs offered at SJC are Executive M.B.A.; Organizational Management; Certificate in Leadership and Supervision; and Certificate in Human Resources.

Admissions

St. Joseph’s College boasts an enrollment of more than 3,500 students each semester. Freshman students seeking admission to the College must send their completed application form along with official transcripts and their ACT/ SAT score. Getting a transfer to the institute is easy. Students seeking a transfer must send their application along with official transcripts from all previously attended institutes. International students are also encouraged to apply for admission to SJC. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test to provide a proof of their proficiency in the language.

Financial Aid

St. Joseph’s College believes in providing equal opportunity for education to all, and hence it presents a variety of financial aid programs to help students pay for college. Students seeking financial assistance must complete the following online applications: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP); and New York State Aid for Part-Time Study (APTS).

The institute offers financial assistance through different mediums, such as grants, scholarships, and loans. Grants and scholarships are the type of gift aids, which do not have to be returned. Some of the grants and scholarships are Presidential Scholarship, Scholastic Achievement Award, Alumni Grant, Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, Incentive Grants, and Catholic School Grant.

The College also participates in the following federal programs: Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Pell Grant, College, Perkins Loan and Family Education Loan Programs/ Stafford and Plus Loans. Students may opt for the federal loans, however this type of financial aid must be returned with interest. The institute also offers work-study programs to enable students take up part time jobs to pay for college. Apart from assisting students meet the educational expenses, the work-study programs also help them gain relevant work experience in their field of interest.

Students

The Office of Student Life at St. Joseph’s organizes all student services, creates an atmosphere where SJC students are encouraged to recognize and reach their maximum potential. The campus hosts myriad of events and activities, focused overall student development. There are also several students clubs and organizations in the campus. Students are encouraged to participate in the existing clubs or start a new one.

The Student Government Association (SGA) acts as the voice of the student body. It is the link between the students and the administration. Some of the registered student clubs and organizations are Accounting and Business Club; B.S.N./Nursing Club; Finance and Investment Club; NSSLHA/Speech Pathology Club; Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM); Women’s Issues Club; Council for the Arts; Chamber Choir; SJC Orchestra; and Student Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.).

Greek life also has a strong presence in the campus. There are several fraternities and sororities, such as Alpha Theta Rho Sorority; Delta Psi Omega Fraternity; Lambda Psi Iota Sorority; Sigma Xi Epsilon; and Zeta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Campus Facilities:

The Callahan Library, named in honor of Sister Virginia Therese Callahan, was opened in the fall of 1989. It supports the academic pursuits of all students and faculty members through quality service and other facilities. The library is well-stocked with reference materials, books, guides, journals, videos, audiotapes, and other materials on a variety of subjects.

Athletics

St. Joseph’s Suffolk Campus athletic department sponsors a variety of men’s and women’s teams in diverse sports such as baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, and tennis. The athletic teams are nicknamed Golden Eagles. The athletic teams participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division III sports. The John A. Danzi Athletic Center is a state-of-the-art athletic complex, including a jogging/walking track, pool, aerobics/dance studio, and a fitness center.

Local Community

The Long Island Campus is located in Patchogue directly off the Sunrise Highway. The Campus is just minutes from various points of interest such as the Great South Bay, Brookhaven National Laboratory, L.I. MacArthur Airport, Orient Point and the spectacular Long Island beaches.

Additional School Information

The Office of Career Development at Long Island Campus assists the students in finding a fulfilling career. Students can work with the counselors to identify their career and personal goals. The office provides a variety of services for students including resume writing help, cover letter writing, graduate school resources, internship resources, interview preparation, and job coordination.
