New York Medical College

Academics

Founded in 1860, by New York City civic leaders including William Cullen Bryant in order to improve upon the existing hospitals and medical education, the New York Medical College still thrives today in Valhalla, Westchester County, New York. This private health sciences university is composed of three schools, the School of Medicine, the Graduate School of Basic Medical sciences, and the School of Health Sciences and Practice. The New York Medical College is especially dedicated to networking with affiliated hospitals from large urban medical centers to small suburban hospitals and regional tertiary care facilities. This both aids the community in which NYMC thrives and provides clinical training opportunities for medical students and residents across the tri-state area. Additionally, established area Medics thrive due to Continuing Medical Education programs, designed to advance and expand contemporary medical skills and knowledge.

Students interested in pursuing careers as physicians, scientists and healthcare professionals greatly benefit from the various schools’ degree awarding programs, offering master’s, doctorate, and doctor of medicine degrees. Students may choose from disciplines and specializations in areas like biochemistry & molecular biology, cell biology & anatomy, microbiology & immunology, experimental pathology, pharmacology, and physiology. Students are given plenty of hands-on experience in state of the art campus facilities like the Medical Education Center opened in 2001, and renovations to the Basic Sciences Building adding over 120,000 square feet of office and laboratory research dedicated space. A leading academic biomedical research institution, many of NYMC’s research programs are directly funded by the National Institutes of Health with strengths in cancer, cardiovascular disease, disaster medicine, kidney disease, the neurosciences and infectious diseases.
