Introduction

New Mexico State University-Alamogordo (NMSU-A) is a two-year community college that provides traditional university-credited educational programs, occupational/technical programs, and personal enrichment courses. The school was established in 1958 with a total enrollment of 278 students with the purpose of providing post secondary education to the military and civilian personnel of Holloman Air Force Base. The first classes were held at night in the Alamogordo High School. Currently the school has an enrollment of over 3,600 students.

New Mexico State University-Alamogordo is located on the foothills of the Sacramento Mountains overlooking the Alamogordo city and the Tularosa Basin. The school primarily caters to the south central New Mexico region. The New Mexico State University-Alamogordo is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The Nursing program offered at the school is accredited by the National League of Nursing.

The Adult Basic Education program of the New Mexico State University-Alamogordo is offered at the Tays Center.
