Academics

Nashua Community College (NCC) is a two-year college in Amherst, New Hampshire. The school offers online courses, associate’s degrees and certificates. NCC also sponsors the Running Start program that allows students to earn college credit while still in high school. Running Start offers reduced tuition for those students who meet the requirements.

Online classes at the school are offered through a conglomerate of community colleges in the state of New Hampshire. There are over 200 courses scheduled for online education throughout seven schools in the state including Nashua. There is also a helpful Distance Learning Support Center offered online that answers questions and steers students that are new to the system in the right direction. The New Hampshire network of online schools also offers videoconferencing for those students who need a little more face time.

There are a bevy of associate’s degrees that students may obtain at Nashua Community College including automotive technology, electronic engineering and nursing. The Liberal Arts degree offers tracks or concentrations for students looking to transfer to a four-year college and continue their education. The Automotive Technology degree has courses in a real automotive lab where students will receive hands on training and real world experience. With the Automotive Technology degree there is also a concentration in Honda and Acura-style automobiles.

NCC offers many Professional Certificate programs as well, geared towards business leaders and working adults looking to improve their education within their current jobs. These include accounting, early childhood education and CADD certificates. There is also a Computer Science program that offers certificates in internet developing and fiber optics. Nashua offers an on-campus Academic Advising Center to help students with registration and course selection.

Admissions

NCC has an open-admission policy for students and gives consideration to residents of New Hampshire first. High school graduates as well as students who have completed a GED are welcome to apply.

New students are required to fill out the application form and pay a non-refundable fee to the Admissions Office, submit evidence of high school graduation and official transcripts.

Some students applying for certain programs may be asked to schedule an interview with a College Counselor, present recommendations from employers to participate in a course placement assessment.

International Students may apply to NCC as well. However, applications must be filed at least 90 days in advance of the entrance date. Students in this program are also required to pay a nonrefundable advance deposit towards their tuition of as well as an orientation fee.

Students who are veterans may be eligible for special programs and considerations.

Financial Aid

The financial aid process at NCC requires the FAFSA to be filled out in its entirety. The school helps students obtain loans, grants and work study programs.

Grants include the Pell Grant, National Science Foundation Grant, New Hampshire Incentive Program and the Massachusetts State Grant among others.

Nashua also offers work study programs on and off campus as well as many on campus jobs available through local Nashua non-profit agencies.

Students

Nashua Community College was founded in 1970 and is located in southern New Hampshire in the beautiful city of Amherst. The city is home to the Ponemah Bog Wildlife Sanctuary and the Hodgman State Forest.

The Student Senate is the student governing body at NCC. It exists of an Executive Committee and a senate body made up of senators.

Students are also encouraged to get involved in the community around the school through the Service Learning Program.

The Walter B. Peterson Library and Media Center opened in 2000. The Southern New Hampshire Medical Center provides lab and classroom space on the ground of the center for students in the Nursing Program. In 2007 ground was broken for the Wellness Center.
