It was originally established in 1889 as Deaconess College of Nursing, and acquired its present name in 2006. Academics

Academic programs are comprised of undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing, including an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree, and Masters of Science Nursing Degree.

Online Education

The online post-licensure nursing degree is offered for students who are unable to attend a traditional college. The innovative, flexible online degree options enable students to earn their nursing degree in a program which perfectly fits their routine while they continue to work. The online RN to BSN degree completion option permits registered students to advance their nursing instruction by earning a BSN degree in as few as three semesters.

Admissions

Students seeking admission must send the completed application form along with official transcripts, and a non-refundable application fee. Depending on the desired degree program, the institute may request an official transcript documenting proof of high school graduation, California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE), or successful completion of the General Education Development (GED) Examination.

Students need to provide official transcripts from all previously attended institutions; and a proof of an existing LVN, LPN, or RN license from the United States or from a jurisdiction that is a member of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). A copy of ACT or SAT scores must also be sent directly to the College. Getting a transfer to the institute is easy. You must submit the completed application form along with the official transcripts from previously attended institutes.

International students are encouraged to apply for admission. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test or any other equivalent test to provide a proof of their proficiency in English language.

Financial Aid

The Office of Financial Aid offers a variety of programs to help students find suitable assistance to pay for college. Nearly 85 percent of the nursing students use some sort of financial aid to cover the cost of their education. The college provides financial help through various mediums, such as grants, loans, scholarships and work study programs. All students seeking financial aid must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) every year.

Grants and scholarships are types of gift aid that do not require replayment. Some of them are Federal Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG), Chamberlain Access Grants (CAG), Next Generation Scholarship, Nightingale Scholarship, Chief Steward Scholarship, Dean’s Scholarship, and Navigate to Nursing (N2N) Scholarship Program, and Working Parent Scholarship.

Students may also opt for loans, however this type of financial aid must be returned with interest. The different types of loans offered are Federal Stafford Loan; Subsidized Stafford Loan; and Unsubsidized Stafford Loan.

Federal Work-Study (FWS) enables students who demonstrate financial need to take up part-time jobs to pay for college. In this program, the students earn at least the present hourly minimum wage by working at the campus or for nonprofit or private for-profit agencies.

Students

The institute provides students with opportunities to widen their educational horizons through an array of social, cause-related and field experiences. The Student Government Association (SGA) is a voluntary organization that acts as a connection between the college administration and the student body. SGA acts as the voice of the student population. It organizes a variety of events and activities for student development. It meets regularly to discuss issues and pass legislation to improve student life on campus.

The campus hosts several student clubs and organizations based on the diverse interests of the students. Some of the registered organizations are National Student Nurses Association (NSNA), National Honor Society, Student Nurses’ Association, and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The students are encouraged to take up international projects such as Brazil Service Trip, Kenya Service Trip, or Hydration for the Homeless.

The Career Center helps the students find suitable jobs meeting their needs. The college website offers a list of online job openings to assist the students identify the current vacant positions and rush for an interview. The job profiles may range from nursing tutor, clinical development specialist, clinic manager, and so on.
