Located in Orlando, Florida, Orlando Tech has provided a quality technical education for local residents for over 70 years. The school promises committed faculty and staff as well as quality, career-oriented training. With close links to local business and industry, Florida Tech is an important gateway for individuals to break into the area workforce. Orlando Tech offers 18 academic programs in five separate areas: Arts & Technology, Business, Consumer Service, Education and Health Care. Majors range from Digital Audio Production, to Sewing Technology, to Patient Care Assistance and beyond.

Academic programs at Orlando Tech vary in length and tuition costs. At the Orlando Tech website, prospective students can find detailed information about each major, including specific program content, employment opportunities, class schedules and costs. A student interested in Culinary Operations, for example, will be trained in cooking skills, inventory and table service. With a program length of 1,200 hours, he or she has the option of being a full time or part time student. Prospective students are encouraged to visit the website to get specific information about each major and program.

Orlando Tech is one of four Orange County tech centers approved by the State Department of Education. The center is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Council on Occupational Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement. Specific programs, such as the Dental Assistant program, are accredited by specific entities (in this case, the American Dental Association).

Admissions

Orlando Tech has an open admissions policy, meaning it is open to all those interested in attending who meet a few basic requirements of age, language ability and high school education.

Those interested in attending Orlando Tech are encouraged to first determine in which program they are interested in taking part. Those unsure should first visit the Career Assessment website of the school to better decide what path to take. Once deciding, prospective students must attend a Program Orientation to receive further information about the programs as well as present identification and a $25.00 application fee.

Because some programs require testing prior to enrollment, students may be asked to complete a certain set of exams. All students are asked to take the Test of Adult Basic Education, which includes Reading, Math Computation, Applied Mathematics and Language Skills assessments. Literacy, English language and nursing entrance tests may also be required.

Financial Aid

Financial Aid information is readily available to all prospective and currently enrolled students qualified to take part in an approved career-training program. Those interested in applying for financial aid must visit one of the financial aid offices at a CTE center and complete the Orange County Public School CTE Financial Aid Application as well as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Beyond general financial aid programs, Vocational Rehabilitation, One Stop Career Center and other third party agencies also provide monetary aid to Orlando Tech students. Veterans’ education benefits are also available and should be looked into.

Students

Though Orlando Tech is a commuter campus, students are provided with the opportunity to participate in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) designed to expand opportunities for leadership, social awareness and development.

The National Technical Honor Society at the institution recognizing outstanding achievement among students including a high GPA, excellent attendance and teamwork.

Other students may choose to participate in the Student Advisory Board. Representatives are elected from each program and meet regularly to address the concerns of the student body. Activities undertaken by the group include campus improvement, blood drives and fun raisers.

Orlando Tech is located in one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States and in the world – Orlando Florida. The home of Disney World, Universal Studios and other attractions, it is the chosen vacation spot for millions of individuals from the United States and the entire world each year.

For this reason, many of the programs offered by Orlando Tech are designed to fuel the local tourism industry. Students of 3-D animation and digital video production often later find work at big-named companies such as Disney. Students of Culinary Operations and Sewing Technology & Services often come to form a part of the local tourism and hospitality industry as well.

Of course, other programs are meant to provide a workforce for the needs of locals. Those who study health care are an important part of the well-being of local residents. And those who study business-related careers fuel local industry and administration. Students play an important part in the local community in terms of both tourism and other industries.
