Hacienda La Puente Adult Education (HLPAE) is part of the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District, located in California. HLPAE maintains four campuses, including Willow Center and Hudson Center in La Puente and Dibble Campus and Shadybend Center in Hacienda Heights. HLPAE offers a wide range of vocational courses, with many students participating in industrial and technological academic programs. These courses provide excellent learning opportunities for the school’s diverse student population.
HLPAE offers a variety of adult education programs including cosmetology, health careers, business careers, trades, and an apprenticeship training program. Students enrolled in the health careers program will prepare to work as a dental assistant, nurse assistant, medical assistant, psychiatric technician, or vocational nurse (LVN). Other health-related programs include CPR classes, as well as EKG usage. The business careers program prepares students for work in one of the following positions: accounting clerk, data entry clerk, typist/keyboarding, proof machine operator, civil service technician, or with computer applications such as graphic design, webpage design, animation, or applications for Microsoft Office. Students enrolled in the trades program may consider one of the following careers: pet groomer, automotive mechanic, computer repair, animal attendant, electronics assembler, day care or child care worker, electrical appliance servicer, or optical lab technician or dispenser.
The apprenticeship training program is a unique program designed to provide coursework with on-the-job training. Training programs include California Fire Fighters, Southern California Floor Covering Crafts, Sprinkler Fitters United Association, and Cosmetic Cosmetology & Barbering Unilateral Apprenticeship.
In addition, HLPAE provides other academic programs, such as parent education, GED classes, English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, citizenship classes, programs for the deaf, hearing impaired literacy, as well as community interest courses. To assist students with busy schedules, HLPAE offers distance learning for ESL courses, citizenship classes, parent education courses, and elementary basic skills. Distance learning is taught using audio and videotapes and supplemental reading materials at no cost to the student.
HLPAE also offers an innovative rehab services program to train students for jobs as custodians and building maintenance workers, production assemblers, fast food workers, and landscaping workers. The school provides business services to area organizations in need of applicant screenings, customized training, or computer training.
